- Why is insulation compatible LED ceiling downlights and drivers necessary in the ceiling?
Building regulations require that insulation material is laid unbroken over the whole ceiling area to avoid heat loss through gaps in the insulation. This means that insulation cannot be cleared away from LED downlights and drivers in spaces such as loft and top storey. The normal LED downlights and drivers can not survive in the insulation due to temperatures generated by the drivers itself, which results in overheating.
Common LED downlights: If the light and driver are covered by the thermal material directly, heat dissipation will be bad and the light cannot be properly functioned so that it will lead to flicking and overheat, even cause fire.
Insulation compatible LED downlights: They are designed to be used under such situation, to be covered by thermal material. No extra box are needed for the light to breath and heat dissipation.
